Miami’s Community News: Mayor Daniella Levine Cava Recognized as 2024 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate

Today, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava‘s commitment to gun violence prevention and community safety has been acknowledged with the distinction of being named a 2024 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate. This recognition serves as a testament to Mayor Daniella’s successful advocacy for gun safety measures and her dedication to governing with the safety of Miami-Dade County residents in mind. The Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction is a signal to supporters, volunteers, and voters that a candidate prioritizes gun violence prevention and will work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the community they serve.

“I am so proud to once again be recognized as a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate,” says Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “I’ve made it my mission to reduce gun violence through community programs and initiatives, and thanks to our hard work, Miami-Dade has achieved one of the lowest rates of gun violence for any major metro area in the country. However, there is more work to be done, and together, we will continue to build a safer Miami-Dade.”

Since Mayor Daniella Levine Cava took office, Miami-Dade County has defied national trends in crime. Her leadership has kept our families safe and prevented gun violence through successful community programs such as the “Peace and Prosperity Plan” and “Operation Community Shield” — programs investing in job creation, internships and apprenticeships, community revitalization projects, and economic investments in housing, commercial, and business development.

Under our Mayor’s leadership, the Miami-Dade Police Department last year created a Crisis Response Unit (CRU) allowing mental health experts and clinicians to respond to nonviolent emergency calls. Mayor Levine Cava has continued to champion public safety efforts that have taken 3,000 illegal guns off our streets and created a youth employment program to provide paid work experience for youth in zip codes most impacted by gun violence.

Moms Demand Action is a nonpartisan grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence.
